Teaching structure and course content
The teaching program of the University Expert Course in Maternal and Obstetric Pathology includes 6 theoretical modules covering almost all maternal and obstetric pathology, offering advanced training through theoretical classes and the interactive platform. Each module allows online viewing of videos with their theoretical contents. These modules will have a specific duration and will be carried out sequentially. The theoretical assessment is conducted online, once the Masterclass session is completed and all student questions are resolved. The exam will be in multiple-choice format, including questions that may feature images and videos, with specific dates for completion
Masterclasses will be scheduled with the tutor of each module in Zoom format, where students can ask their questions live to the experts online. They will be coordinated by a moderator who will facilitate their development. The session will take place before the end of the online exam period to address any doubts that students may have.
A forum will be created using the Moodle platform for each module. It will be supervised by the course’s scientific coordinator, who will ensure its proper functioning. It will be made available to students at the beginning of each module and will serve as a space to share concerns and doubts related to the topics covered. Additionally, module directors will present clinical cases to the students to generate discussion. Some of these sessions will consist of practical workshops such as pelvic floor repair, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, etc.
Students will be required to complete a final research paper, which will be evaluated by the Academic Committee. The topic of the paper will be proposed by each student. There are 2 modalities to choose from regarding the theme of this final work:
The University Expert Course in Maternal and Obstetric Pathology consists of a theoretical-practical and a practical-presential part. The theoretical part is conducted through the Virtual Campus of Fetal i+D Education Barcelona, combining online theory with the resolution of clinical cases and Masterclasses.
The practical-presential part takes place at the facilities of Fetal Medicine Barcelona in Mexico. During this phase, classes such as Meet the Professor sessions, clinical cases, invasive techniques, and simulations will be conducted.
The course is conducted in small groups of up to 25 students, allowing for greater interaction between students and teachers.
The course structure is comprised of a faculty of world experts in the field, who are regular faculty members of Fetal Medicine Barcelona and its Directors; Eduard Gratacós and Francesc Figueras, ensuring that this course offers a solid and comprehensive training through a rigorous and eminently practical academic program.
The course is led by Dr. Raigam Martínez, local director, and Elisa Llurba, coordinator in Spain. Dr. Llurba is an expert in Maternal and Obstetric Medicine, specializing in preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, prematurity, congenital heart diseases, maternal diseases, critical care medicine, patient-centered care, respectful obstetric practices, and modern obstetrics.
There will be two separate assessments that must be passed to obtain the certificate.
The theoretical evaluation is conducted online, once the Masterclass session has been completed and all student doubts have been resolved.
The evaluation of the practical component will be based on the knowledge acquired in each of the practical sessions.
To obtain the certificate, it is essential to pass all modules, as well as the Expert’s Final Project.
