The course is designed to elevate your skills and achieve excellence in diagnosing and managing Fetal central nervous system (CNS) anomalies. It offers a comprehensive approach covering anatomy, pathophysiology, and the acquisition of detailed imaging. Knowledge is achived through intensive exposure to a large number of real cases spanning the spectrum of conditions encountered in a fetal neurosonography unit.
This program offers a unique opportunity to learn insights from experts on optimizing advanced Fetal neurosonography techniques while progressively deepening understanding of all pertinent CNS malformations. You will also become familiar with different options for Fetal therapy in some of the most common malformations and gain comprehensive advanced training in the assessment of Fetal CNS anatomy using imaging techniques, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging.
With a strong focus on clinical decision-making, master classes and an in-person period in Barcelona are designed to complement specific skills in advanced neurosonography and prognosis evaluation, as well as the acquisition of crosscutting skills such as multidisciplinary interaction and patient counselling.
The interactive nature of the program facilitates active engagement through forum discussions, case sharing with experts, and participation in virtual master classes. Additionally, the two-week on-site training in Barcelona promises close interaction with experts and hands-on practical sessions.
This unique academic initiative meets the growing demand for specialists equipped with in-depth knowledge in Fetal Neurology.
The course provides specialized training in Fetal neurology for Fetal medicine specialists and obstetric ultrasound professionals experienced in Fetal neurosonography. It aims to enrich their comprehension and clinical proficiency in Fetal neurology.
Empower participants to conduct thorough diagnoses and provide prenatal counseling for Fetal CNS anomalies by fostering a deep understanding of Fetal CNS anatomy and pathophysiology.
The course is designed to enhance your skills and achieve excellence in the diagnosis and management of Fetal central nervous system (CNS) anomalies.

Teaching Structure
The Specialization Diploma in Fetal Neurosonography includes 10 theoretical-practical modules covering fundamental and advanced concepts in Fetal CNS exploration, advanced understanding of Fetal CNS anomalies, and application of Fetal therapy.
The online modules feature theoretical classes based on clinical cases presented in video on the virtual campus. These modules have designated durations and are conducted sequentially.
The test will be online, after the Masterclass session and the resolution of all student queries. The theoretical exam consists of multiple-choice questions, possibly incorporating images and videos, It will take place within specified dates.
Streaming Masterclasses will be scheduled with tutors or module directors in Zoom format, allowing students to interact live with experts and address their queries.
These sessions, facilitated by a moderator, will precede the conclusion of the online exam period for each module to resolve all student doubts. Masterclass schedules will be announced in advance on the Virtual Campus.
The practical component of the course is designed to equip students with the necessary skils for advanced neurosonography, demanding substantial dedication from participants. Each module includes a practical component where students must acquire and submit a specified number of ultrasound images meeting criteria outlined in theoretical classes.
Some modules also require the presentation of clinically documented cases, along with corresponding images obtained by the student in their workplace.
These cases must be documented, with the diagnosis supported by specific key points of the observed defects. Additionally, any complementary tests conducted and a summary of recommended prenatal counselling for the pregnant woman must be explained.
The delivery schedule will be available on the Virtual Campus, with any changes to deadlines announced on the Campus calendar.
Course tutors will evaluate the images, providing personalized feedback to assist students in identifying potential shortcomings and enhancing their clinical skills.
The program includes an online forum hosted on a Moodle platform, facilitating interaction among attendees and faculty. It will be available to students at the beginning of each module.
Students must resolve clinical cases in different situations, including differential diagnosis, establishing a study protocol, and a follow-up plan for each case, considering prognostic evaluation.
The high level of experience of the teaching team will guide participants through cases of varying complexity. This innovative and dynamic part of the course will allow participants to acquire the tools to conduct a comprehensive and systematic evaluation of most CNS anomalies from a practical management perspective.
The on-site part consists of two weeks in Barcelona. This stage will entail a visit to Fetal Neurosonography Unit at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in BCNatal (Center for Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine in Barcelona). This on-site stay will take place towards the end of the course and aims to improve advanced neurosonography techniques, consolidate knowledge, integrate multidisciplinary clinical management, better understand advanced imaging techniques, and facilitate interaction with mentors and team members.
The training program includes the completion of a research project, which will be assessed by the Academic Committee. Typically, this project entails a critical review of literature on a specific topic, which may be supplemented with original data from the student’s institution. Under the guidance and supervision of a mentor, the student personally conducts the research project.
