Teaching Structure and Content
The Postgraduate Course in High-Risk Obstetrics consists of a theoretical-practical and an on-site part. The theoretical-practical part takes place through the Virtual Campus of Fetal i+D Education Barcelona, combining online theory with the resolution of clinical cases and interaction with faculty through Masterclass sessions.
The on-site part takes place in Barcelona. It includes Meet the Professor classes, clinical cases, invasive techniques, and simulations.
The course’s structure is formed by a faculty of world experts in the field, constituting the regular faculty of Fetal Medicine Barcelona and its Directors; Eduard Gratacós and Francesc Figueras. This ensures that the course will provide a solid and comprehensive education through a rigorous and highly practical academic program.
The course is directed by Dr. Elisa Llurba, an expert in Maternal and Obstetric Medicine, specifically dedicated to preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, prematurity, congenital heart diseases, maternal diseases, critical care medicine, patient-centered care, respectful obstetric practices, and modern obstetric surgery.
The teaching program of the Postgraduate Course in High-Risk Obstetrics includes 6 theoretical modules that cover almost all aspects of maternal and obstetric pathology, offering advanced training through theoretical classes and an interactive platform. Each module allows online viewing of videos with their theoretical content. These modules will have a specified duration and will be carried out sequentially. The theoretical assessment is done online, once the Masterclass session has been completed and all student questions have been addressed. The exam will be in multiple-choice format with questions that may include images and videos, with specific dates for completion.
Masterclasses will be scheduled with the tutor of each module in Zoom format, where students can ask their questions to the experts live online. They will be coordinated by a moderator who will facilitate their development. The session will be held before the end of the online exam period to address any questions students may have.
All modules include a practical component, which consists of obtaining and submitting clinical cases and ultrasound images* following the criteria outlined in the theoretical classes. These will be evaluated and scored by the Academic Committee of the course, so that students will receive personalized feedback that will allow them to detect potential errors in order to improve technically and enhance their clinical practice. (*Submission of documented clinical cases, obtained by the student in their workplace, with associated images).
A forum will be created using the Moodle platform for each module. It will be supervised by the scientific coordinator of the course, who will ensure its proper functioning. It will be made available to students at the start of the module and will serve as a space to share concerns and questions related to the topics covered. Additionally, the module directors will present clinical cases to the students to generate discussion.
Students will be required to complete a final research project, which will be evaluated by the Academic Committee. The topic of the project will be proposed by each student. There are 2 modalities to choose from regarding the theme of the final project:
